KML Recordings es el sello discográfico fundado por las para nada convencionales pero de formación clásica bellísimas hermanas pianistas Labèque. Su pretensión es abrazar cualquier manifestación musical contemporánea.
Pues bien, sin querer he descubierto Across the Universe of Languages. B for Bang es la banda de Katia Labèque (la cual presume de dos temas que Miles Davis le dedicó en su álbum You’re Under Arrest) y ha reclutado para la ocasión a músicos peculiares de lenguajes muy diferentes (David Chalmin, Nicola Tescari, Massimo Pupillo, Marque Gilmore, Giovanni Sollima, Viktoria Mullova, Katell Keineg, Meg, Nadeah, Patti Smith, Daniel Day Lewis). Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds y otras joyas de los Beatles son (re)descubiertas. Las pinceladas de Sonic Youth las pinta Massimo Pupillo, el bajo de Thurston Moore. También está claro que Meg quiere ser como Björk.
Bunch of rare fun, as a collective of (not so) serious avant-garde and contemporary classical types (Dimension X, Zu) plus occasional famous mate (Daniel Day-Lewis, Patti Smith) rewire The Beatles (mainly Sgt Pepper’s) as a series of Phillip Glass style piano compositions, vertiginous guitar orchestrations and hipster speak. ‘Helter Skelter’ is rightly a seething maelstrom of rhythm and cascading arpeggios; ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’ isn’t a patch (but is similar to) The Breeders’ take; ‘I Want You’ is a pizzicato exercise in restraint and rapture. And in between the deconstructions are original compositions, fleshing the solicitude.
